Meg Cabot - Insatiable

Sick of vampires? So is Meena Harper.

But her boss is making her write about them anyway, even though Meena doesn’t believe in them.

Not that Meena isn’t familiar with the supernatural. See, Meena Harper knows how you’re going to die (not that you’re going to believe her; no one ever does).

But not even Meena’s precognition can prepare her for what happens when she meets—then makes the mistake of falling in love with—Lucien Antonescu, a modern-day prince with a bit of a dark side . . . a dark side a lot of people, like an ancient society of vampire-hunters, would prefer to see him dead for.

The problem is, he already is dead. Maybe that’s why he’s the first guy Meena’s ever met that she could see herself having a future with. See, while Meena’s always been able to see everyone else’s future, she’s never been able look into her own.

And while Lucien seems like everything Meena has ever dreamed of in a boyfriend, he might turn out to be more like a nightmare.

Now might be a good time for Meena to start learning to predict her own future . . .

If she even has one

Insatiable (Insatiable, #1)Insatiable by Meg Cabot

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I liked the book it was a good read. Meena was an interesting main character with her so called "gift" (being able to tell when people will die) I liked her a lot.

Lucien The vamp who's trying to do things differently I liked instantly even though hes trying to be "good" he certainly does not sparkle! And does have a dangerous side to him (Yummy)

When these two start dating along comes Alaric the Vampire slayer with lots of hate toward the undead and a rep for the finer things in life... cant do anything unless its five star!

I love Meena and Lucien I think there relationship was sexy and entertaining but for me there just wasnt enough of it!!! Most of the time they are actually seperated. So at times there relationship seemes a little forced.

The story becomes slow moving in the middle but after that it does pick up and end on a high, I just felt this story took too long for everything to happen. BUT it was a fun read I did enjoy it and I am hopeful for the next book which I will read.

3 and half stars

Book Peeves & Membership info

Everybody knows I am loyal to Borders, having said that lately I have been peeved a number of books I've ordered have come with kinks in the cover or pages. Now I know it doesn't sound like a big deal but to me it is... Nothing feels nicer then sitting down with a brand new sparkly never read fresh book.
I pay to have this nice new feeling! so it really disheartens me when I don't get it! Especially from a company who specializes in Books alone...come on now people.

What also bothers me is being at a store and the books are just piled everywhere or on the floor... omg I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack! lol. I find myself  reorganizing shelves.. TJ Maxx is Notorious for this. I just want to pick all the books up and take them home with me lol.

People seriously if you walk past a book on the floor PICK IT UP!

On a slightly different topic I've heard a lot of people complain that they bought the Borders Member plus only to have all the borders in there town close.
OK so I myself bought the membership and even though Borders stores are now less, the Membership deal is still well worth the money.

Here's why:
  1. The Year membership is $20 but you get $10 Borders bucks back automatically after you upgrade. So You are only actually paying $10 for the Year membership.
  2. You get and Extra 10% off every order
  3. Yes I am aware a lot of stores are closing but take advantage of the website because most new books have up to 46% off the regular price!!! Not to mention the weekly discount coupons your sent.
  4. This for me is the kicker.........FREE SHIPPING on ALL orders.
Honestly 70% of the time I only use there website, I've gotten great deals and the membership has more then paid for itself.

We need to live in a bubble!

This weekend was a tough one. The portillo household all got sick, four yr old sounded like a barking dog & 8month old didn't handle sickness for the 1st time very well... Poor babies, especially my little gordita her little eyes were sticky :(
Momma really didn't get any sleep! & I was not feeling 100% myself. My husband was really no help either having been suffering from a back problem for the last 2weeks. I swear as a family we are falling apart! Lol.

So I am praying to all the gods that tonight when my head touches the pillow I wont have to wake up until tomorrow morning.

Bright Young Things

The year is 1929, NY is ruled by Bright Young Things: Flappers and socialites seeking, thrills and Chasing dreams, In a time where anything goes era of the roaming Twenties

First of all I love love love the Caption inside the book cover (written above) What a way to leave an impression! I knew I wanted to read this book right away.
The cover is also beautiful - Anna Godbersen true to form just as her previous books had.

Bright young things is about two friends wanting to escape a small Midwestern town for the big city. Each have there own dreams to chase, Letty wants to be on the Stage and be a star while Cordelia is looking for the Father (a bootlegger & gangster) she has never met.
This book is definitely a coming of age story in the beginning they have a naivety about them and how life is going to be. Through out the book they deal with trials and tribulations, heart breaks, betrayals and revenge. With out a doubt the characters developed and changed by the end of the book.

Cordelia falls in love with the son of her fathers long time enemy - she has to decide whether she wants to follow her heart and betray the only parent she has, or follow her fathers advice to let go because in the end blood is always thicker then water.

Letty in a bid to become famous refuses the advice of a gentleman and trust's the wrong person putting herself in a compromising situation - Is she really willing to do what every other girl her age is doing to get to the top, which involves seedy men in back rooms of hotels?

I thought both Letty & Cordelia needed to hold there friendship to a higher value, I was saddened and upset to see that they where able to let go of each other so easily.
Charlie surprised me I wanted to dislike him and for a while I did but I think by the end he shows himself to be a loyal person.
Astrid I liked I thought she had a genuine heart even if she was a little weak when it came to Charlie, having said that her mother wasn't exactly a role model for her.

I liked the book and cant wait to see how the story continues! 4 out of 5

Summer is here, my body isn't!

Ugh my son is harassing me for a pool pass which means I have to buy a swim suit not liking the notion one little bit. I failed miserably to loose the 10lbs I needed too after giving birth to Sophia and now I am dreading the summer. Normally I couldn't care less but recently a few ill considerate people just loved to inform me how I still had a little blubber to loose.... (no sh*t batman I mean I got two kids it ain't easy!)

Just let me put it out there its never OK to mention somebodies weight! EVER.. Especially after giving birth less then a year ago! (just saying)

so what do I do? I mean I'm 26 I don't want to look like a frump, but I don't want to look like those women who squeeze into a two piece and have bumps and lumps everywhere ( you know what I'm talking about lol)

Right now I am all for buying a whole body wet suit with floatation device in case I cant stay afloat lol!! Jacob's mom who sure be the talk of the pool community then.

Chat Session With Holly Black.

So you guys know I have recently read White Cat & Red Glove and have been raving about it! It has been the first set of books that have truly got me excited to be reading this year. When I heard Courtesy of Mundie Moms Blog we had the opportunity to speak with Holly Black author of the Curse Workers series in a chat session last night you know I had to be part of it!
It turned out to be a fun and interesting hour and I am excited to say some of my personal questions where answered.

My favorite Q & A's where:

Were did the idea of Curse Workers come from?

Holly Black: A couple of years ago I read a book about a kid who was raised by a grifting mother.
She stole cars, burned down houses for the insurance money, and eventually wound up in prison for murder. But reading about him and how he had to figure out what right and wrong was when she thought wrong was basically getting caught fascinated me and that's where a lot of Cassel came from.

What type of Worker would you like to be?

Holly Black: Some days I say I would be a luck worker, because I think that might be the type of curse work with the least awful blowback and the most uses. But some days, I think death worker, because I would be very dangerous.

How do you come up with names for Characters?

Holly Black: I actually feel like I can't start a book until I know the characters' names. To me, when I know the right name, that's when they come alive in some essential way. With Cassel, I heard his name - one of Cassie Clare's friends who I had never met was named Cassel and I knew I wanted to use the name. Then when I met the actual person, it was WEIRD.

Some of my personal questions that got answered:

Me: A lot of Books are being turned into movies if the right offer came for Curse workers would you let it happen?

Holly: right now Curse Workers is in the hands of producers Mark Morgan and Roy Lee -- they are trying to turn it into a TV series. I have my fingers crossed.

Me: Even though Cassel's Grandpa is a death worker I find it hard to hate him, was that your intention?

Holly: Melissa, I love Cassel's grandfather - I wanted to portray a guy who was as honorable as he could be inside of a particular honor code. Cassel's grandfather cares about his family and would do anything to protect them. The problem is that he really would do ANYTHING.

Me: Do you know how Curse Workers will end?

Holly: Melissa, I know how BLACK HEART ends and it's a nice stopping place, but there are more things that could still happen to those characters.

Now I might just be wishful thinking but I got the impression that maybe there could be a chance for more Curse Worker books, rather then just the 3 intended! (fingers crossed!) from the other questions that where answered To view the Hour long chat please visit Mundie moms HERE And see what you think.

finally thank you to Holly Black & Mundie Moms for coming together :)
